Priesthood, which is the authority given by God to man to act in His name here on earth, has been passed down from Adam to the generations that had passed by. Abraham has been longing to have this priesthood from his fathers and he did in turn received it in the office of High Priest. Because of his righteousness, he quickly realized he needed to move out of Chaldea for the very people who lived their and who are in power were mostly wicked.
As is the custom of Egypt, priests offers sacrifices by killing people at the altar for the gods of the Pharaohs of Egypt. Three virgins were taken at the altar for they've claimed their faith to be of the Lord and not to the dumb idols. Abraham himself was also taken at the altar for the priests have discovered his righteousness and accused him for the same reasons. But an angel of the Lord appeared and set him free and killed priests around him and destroyed the dumb idols.
Ironically, Abraham's father was also of the same faith as the people of Egypt serving their idols.
Abraham and the rest of his family was living then in the land of Ur. He was warned by the Lord that He would cause a sore famine that would come to their land because of the people's wickedness. Their were many who died because of the famine including his brother Haran. He was commanded to go to Canaan with rest of his family. His father realized all the wickedness he had done and quickly repented. All of them went to Canaan where the Lord had promised for Abraham and his family and his seed. And later the Abrahamic Covenant was born - the Lord promising to Abraham that he will have numerous posterity as the sands of the sea, that he will receive a promised land and the blessings of the priesthood and the gospel.
